I have been studying the practice books and I know what is going to be on the test…but does anyone have details, how was it, tell me about your experience.

if vocab, like 4 me, is a struggle 4 u, DON't worry–as long as u kno 70% of the words they give you, u can miss 17 problems and still get a 90

math, u better kno all of the concepts, bcuz many people are naturally gr8 at math–if u suck, ure percentile will b LOW

reading–u better get all of the questions correct, otherwise u will get a VERY VERY VERY low score–miss 11 questions and u'll get a 70 percentile

writing–practice writing essays, there's no other way but practice….

good luck!!

I want to go to boarding school but for most schools you need to take the SSAT. (Secondary School Admission Test) It is like the SAT for boarding school.

I figured that I probably have take it halfway the school year because I am going to my public high school for 7th grade and then I want to go to a boarding school for 8th and beyond.
So which test would I have to take, the upper or lower?
And what time should I take it during the school year.

Also what tips do u guys have to help me take this test. I have the 2007 practice, and I am getting the 2008 soon. And I will studying intensely for it, but what else can I do to prepare for it?

I did the same thing this year. I got in to Groton and am starting in Second Form (8th grade) In two weeks!

As for the SSAT’s, you will be taking the lower level test. You can buy practice test booklets and study guides to help you, but when I got mine, the practice tests were the same in the Upper level test than the lower level test. That was actually a good thing, because I was prepared for the harder test, so when I got the easier test, I aced it. It was not challenging at all compared to the upper level practice tests that I took beforehand.

If you look on the SSAT web site, there are listings for testing times in your area. http://www.ssat.org/ssat/info/home It will probably be sometime this fall.

Good luck!

I will be taking the upper SSAT test to get into a private boarding school. I think i'm good with the verbal part and writing part, but i'm not so sure about reading comprehension and math. How should i study? Take practice tests (if available) or what?

I took the SSAT a few years ago for my magnet school and all that I used to study was a Barrons SSAT book. I'm sure there are many other books concerning the SSAT but that's the one I used. Also, be sure to take as many practice test as possible (you can find those in the books too).
Good Luck!

Does anyone know what the score for the percentiles would be? The practice book just gives 50th percentile which doesn't do any good. I'm just wondering so I know how far I have to improve. On the practice test I got 781 Verbal. 782 Math. 742 Reading. but it's just an estimate as the actual SSAT is scored slightly differently than the practice tests. I'm applying to Phillips Exeter, and other schools, but the admissions officer had said that most of their students score in the high 80s and mainly 90s. Do you know around where I would score?
oh yeah, and I'm going to be in 8th grade when I apply, and I am (obviously) a female. um… I read that they group scores like that so. yeah

Oh your applying to Phillips Exeter too!!!! I am 2.
But i am applying for 10th grade. Hey we gotta talk

email me at misscofield@yahoo.com

Where did you get the practice test from??

0oh and to answer your question,
just add them together

well i will do it for you right now.

but your scores are good

the most you can get is 800

your score is 2305. which is reaaaaalllly good.

divide that by 2400 and you should get a decimal
if the first number is 9 or 8 then your in the 90's or 80's
if you wanna see how high
look at the second number

its really simple.
where did you take the practice test at

Well, I am about to take the SSAT in less than 2 weeks. I have been studying and taking practice tests, and I have done very well at that, but I am still very nervous.

If you have taken the SSAT then some tips and help that you have discovered from your own experience would be nice.

Also if you have any good tips for learning and remembering vocabulary, that would be nice too.

So if you have any tips, warning or any help regarding the SSAT, I would love it if you would share.

This is a very good website that gives information about the SAT test:
http://www.testprepreview.com/sat_test_breakdown.htm

SAT Test Preparation Tips:

SAT Time Management
Keep track of the time (duh!?!)
You should bring a non-beeping watch with you to the SAT exam. Before the beginning of each section, write down the time the test will end. You can refer to this periodically during the exam to gauge your performance.
Allocate your SAT test time wisely
Do not spend time reading the instructions. You should do this during your preparation and go into the exam already understanding its structure and types of questions asked. The SAT is intentionally designed to make you feel time pressure and the time spent reading instructions is better spent answering the questions.
You will give your best performance if you neither rush through every question nor take an incredibly long amount of time on a few questions and leave the rest unanswered.
There is most definitely a proper balance between these 2 extremes.
All the questions are worth the same number of points. As a result, it will behoove you to NOT spend an inordinate amount of time with the more difficult questions.

Should you have some time left over at the end of a section…
This 3 hour exam will play a large role in determining the rest of your life. Think about it. Do you want to work for people like us or would you rather be our boss? You're young and full of energy. Suck it up and spend the remaining time checking your answers. Don't stop working until the proctor says to.
If you have time at the end of each section, feel free to go back and re-examine the most difficult questions that you decided to omit. We also strongly encourage you to check your answers to the first questions as these are generally very easy and you should be able to quickly catch any dumb mistakes that would have otherwise cost you a "gimme" question.

i need to start studying but i don't know which one to use
i don't care about SAT books i'm looking for SSAT books

When I first took the SAT, my score was low in the mid 1700s but then I got the sat guide from guideparadise: http://www.guideparadise.com/index.php?option=com_guides&task=buy&id=10 and my score went up to 2190 (800 math, 760 writing, 630 reading). I highly recommend this guide for anyone wishing to get a higher SAT score.

I have to take the SSAT as a practice run saturday and eventhough it does not count, i am really nervous! I just need a little advise!

Relax, and prepare every night, but not the night before. Get a good nights rest and eat well. During the exam, if you don't know a question you can always skip it and come back to it later on. If you really don't have any clue, leave it blank, you are not compelled to answer every single question in existance. Do what you know, and remember do not stress over it too much.

I just took the ssat, and I am applying to Kings Academy in Jordan. I got a 72% and the school is a sister school to Deerfield. It is a brand new school. I have plenty of extra curricular activities and have a good gpa. Do I still have a chance?

of course you do.You know, many boom the sat test, and your score is pretty high. So that will help, as well as your GPA. Ill be really surprise if you don't make it.

good luck :]
